Slumdog Millionaire(2008)

Starring: Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan...

Story Adaptation/ Script: Simon Beaufoy

Director: Danny Boyle

Rating: 9.5/10

Verdict: JAI HO!

Based on the novel by Vikas Swarup Q & A, there are slight changes in the movie version from the novel version. Maybe Danny Boyle didnt find it necessary nor did I feel anything extra was needed. The movie is incredible and mind blowingly shot. Not to mention the sound mixing and the placement and A.R. Rahman's score at the right time. The story shot and based in India is about the rags to riches rise of a boy from the slums and his life encounters that help him get to the last question of the popular Indian version of the game show WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?

Jamal Malik a boy from the slums of Dharavi, Mumbai has won 10 million and is one question away from winning 20 million but he is arrested and interrogated by the police and accused of cheating in the game show after suspicion as to how a boy from the slums knows the answers to the questions. At the heart of the movie its a love story.

Kudos to Danny Boyle! The style of direction notably the scenes where the slum kids are chased by the cops on a runway is absolutely breath-taking. You can literally judge the difference how a Bollywood director would have shot the same sequence and how Danny Boyle has done it. Also credit to Simon Beaufoy for adapting the novel story onto the screen with so much precision. He has written it in tight strings. The editing is so slick yet keeping it simple for viewer to understand and yet the film is bollywoodish.

No wonder why the film bagged 10 OSCAR Nominations and also swept the 4 awards in Golden Globes. A.R. Rahman's soundtrack is brilliant. Look out for O Saya, Jai Ho which have bagged Oscar Nominations. Other tracks include Paper Planes by M.I.A.
